Esfand was born from the musical work of Rouzbeh Esfand, who was exploring to what extent Iranian Folk music could fuse with electronic dance music.
This seminal question led him to explore the various rituals and customs of Iranian music, establish a dialog with computer music, and compose several tracks - each dedicated to a specific region or tradition, eventually leading to the album Hélé.
In order to help bring this music on stage, and add more flavor to it, Rouzbeh teamed up with his fellow university mate Patrick Stewart. Literally coming from the other side of the planet, the latter brought a fresh view of the project, extracting the tracks from their Iranian ground, and feeding them different musical energies.
